Our Technology
Our Technology
With dental technology changing constantly, it is important that we, as dentists, keep informed and up-to-date. Housing within our practice the best technology available means we are able to enhance your experience with us, making your appointment more comfortable and enjoyable. Advanced technology allows us the opportunity to clearly explain your diagnosis and educate you on your choices, making your treatment more efficient.
Intra-Oral Camera
An intra-oral camera allows us to see exactly what is happening in your mouth, giving us an exact indication of what needs to be treated. Plus, what we see, you see. When the miniature camera is being used inside your mouth, the image is shown on a screen in the surgery so we can clearly explain the area we are looking at, any problems and what treatment is required.
Digital Radiography ( x-rays )
With digital radiography, the image is available almost instantly and the radiation levels are kept at a minimum. We are able to view smaller areas with the use of computer technology and your X-ray is stored safely to your computer file with no chance of them being misplaced. They can be printed and emailed and can be accessed easily in the future for comparison and review.
Digital radiographs allow us to safely interpret your current dental condition and provide an accurate solution for your individual needs. We also can take Panoral images which are necessary for diagnosing the location and condition of wisdom teeth and other problems in the jaws.
How often you require dental x-rays is dependent on your dental health and your age. As an adult, if you are prone to dental health problems, then you may find you are asked to have radiographs more frequently than normal in order to closely monitor your condition in more detail.
An X-ray will reveal much more detail than the human eye can detect, which will allow us to check for: small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings)
- infections in the bone
- periodontal (gum) disease
- abscesses or cysts
- developmental abnormalities with the teeth or jaws
- some types of tumours
Diagnodent
The Diagnodent is an early decay detecting system that is fast, non-invasive and painless. It enables us to diagnose early signs of decay and
possibly stop this from further developing thereby saving you from requiring a restoration.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, has been used for over 100 years to create a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing during dental treatment. The gas is inhaled through a small hood placed over the nose. Recovery from nitrous oxide takes only 10 – 20 minutes with no lasting side effects. It is safe for children and adults.
